Comments

We, Japanese people, love nature, we coexist with her, learning from her and knowing her threatening strength. Japanese seasons are very marked. Specially spring and autumn. They are longer than in Europe and we enjoy them as very pleasant seasons. I have chosen this songs to transmit this sensibility that we, the people who have been raised there, have. As the title of each song displays, each of them expresses the sensations of the fourth japanese seasons. Apart of that, they can be interpreted with a loving meaning. The composer is still alive but he doesn't like contemporary music because he thinks it's difficult to understand it. He gives a lot of importance to melody and he expresses every piano tone in a special way.

  • Track 1

Spring: In May, after cherry blossom, the new green leaves appear. In addition, spring is a season with new beginnings. It is for that reason that you can hear bright wishes and also a bit of insecurity.

  • Track 2

Summer: A strong light and an intense green. The nuisance of Japanese summer's high humidity it is expressed with an irregular waltz of ternary and binary time.

  • Track 3

Autumn: We call it "gathering season". It is wraped in a fantastic scenery of red and yellow trees. We can hear this beauty and also a bit of sadness because winter is coming.

  • Track 4

Winter: The calm of winter in a world that becomes silvery, and sometimes covered with snow. It's a lullaby as sweet as the image of a little sprout in the middle of the cold winter.

Hisako Hiseki gathers the most outstanding of the Spanish and Japanese contemporary music. It is the first work she interprets compositors of her native country. 20 pieces where works by Akira Ifukube or Miyoshi converge with the music of Albéniz, Granados, Mompou or Monstsalvatge, achieving joining two seemingly remote cultures. This CD is supported by BBVA Fundation and it counts with the distinction of official project of Año Dual España-Japón granted by Japan Embassy.

“I’ve been living for more than 20 years in Spain with my husband Etsuro Sotoo, who is sculptor in the Sagrada Familia, in construction even after Gaudi’s death. As my husband sculpts following the direction of the genius Gaudi, I’m also pursuing through my japanese sensitivity the essence of Spanish music. The revision of the edition of ‘Suite Iberia’ during 10 years with professor Larrocha was linked to the receiving of Isaac Albeniz Medal, a great honor for me. This CD is also a  result of that. I would be very happy if I could report to everyody the Spanish spirit through this performance.” (Hiseki Hisako)

Brilliant performance of the pianist settled in Barcelona, Hisako Hiseki. Great admirer of the Spanish composer Isaac Albéniz, she devoted 10 years of her life revising the masterpiece  “Suite Iberia”, along with the supervisión of professor Alicia de Larrocha. She has won the “Isaac Albéniz Medal” in 2006 and in 2011 she premiered in Japan, for the first time ever, a concert of Albeniz’s pieces with the Orchestra of Kyushu.
The scores of Iberia are very well known by the pianist, as she has played them in many occasions, including the Anniversary of Albéniz’s birth. It is after having gained a great experience in all those performances that she recorded with extraordinary care this CD, resulting in a splendid performance of the complete pieces of Iberia, which will remain in the memory for as long as time.
